The Cross "newly built" looking southeast with the River Suir and
the Knockmealdown Mountains in the background. To the left of the nearest house
is a sandpit. Some years ago workers raising sand discovered an old lime kiln.
The surrounding townsland is known as Spitalands so named because some kind of
fever hospital was operating here during the famine years. It has been suggested
that the lime kiln was built to burn the bodies of fever victims.
