Ardfinnan

Welcome to the Ardfinnan web site and may I take this opportunity of welcoming all visitors to the site, hope you enjoy it. This site is dedicated to Ardfinnan and it's hinterland. My name is Ted O’Brien and I would like to tell you a little about myself and my beautiful birthplace. I am a native of the beautiful village of Ardfinnan in County Tipperary, Ireland.

My hobbies are Reading, Fishing, both Sea & Freshwater, photography and for awhile I kept a few beehives. I am married and have three children and eight grandchildren. I have lived in Ardfinnan all my life and when I have been away for some time it is one of life’s greatest pleasures to return to my home. Ardfinnan is a quite rural village in some of the most beautiful countryside in Ireland. Ard Fhionan (Ardfinnan) (The village of the Heights) named after St. Finnan who founded a leper colony just outside the village.

It is also one of the main crossing points on the river Suir. This village is definitely worth a detour from the main travel routes. The most prominent feature of the village is the castle which was built by King John around 1180 to guard the river crossing. The Bridge was started soon after the castle was completed. The castle has a long and varied history of owners, and indeed is inhabited to this day but it is not open to the public. The parish of Ardfinnan is made up of three areas, Ardfinnan, Ballybacon, & Grange. The population of Ardfinnan is approx 800 persons but this figure is going to rise by 163% in the near future with the over development of the village by developers, which is being allowed to happen by South Tipperary County Council Planning Department.

Please check out the photos on the site click here hover your mouse over the hotspots on the map and click to view scenes of the village.

The personality of the locals is friendly and outgoing and visitors are always accorded a genuine:
