ARDFINNAN ANGLERS CLUB

With a river running through it Ardfinnan would not be perfect without an Angling Club. The Ardfinnan Anglers Club has been part and parcel of everyday life in Ardfinnan for many years.

The club has about four miles of fishing in all on both sides of the river above and below the village. Even though it is a small club it is a constant battle to keep our fishing rights, with outside interests trying to buy up some rights and even our own National Fisheries Board raising the cost of the fishing rights that the club rent off them, without warning.

In line with the clubs policy of every one being able to fish regardless of colour or creed we encourage everyone to fish with rod and line and prices for locals to join the club and for visitors to enjoy a days fishing are kept as low as possible.

There was an excellent turn out by members of the club this year on bank cleaning duty.

Large Trout Caught

Pakie strikes brown gold.
Paki O'Halloran struch gold on two conseceutive nights last week when he caught two wild brown trout weighing 4 lbs and 3.5 lbs. Pakie fishing from a high bank and using one of Georges serial killer flies admitted that it was only with a lot of luck he was able to land the fish.
Pakie was naturally delighted

A fine brown trout weighing 10lbs and 11 ozs was caught recently in the club waters. This fine fish was caught by local angler Eddie Doolin. See photo below

Some more fine fish caught locally

Pictured above is Matt Sullivan with a brown trout weighing over 4lbs. Also a photo of Matt and his grandson Paidi with two grand freshly run salmon caught in August. Matt also caught another brown trout in September weighing over 8lbs, photo to follow. Matt when asked said that this years fishing brought back memories of the 1960s when salmon were plentful.
